Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stańko has been a seminal figure in the evolution of European jazz since the word passed round in the 60s and 70s that something groundbreaking and very special was emanating from the Polish jazz scene.
His fiery international quartet features the fluently expressive Finnish pianist Alexi Tuomarila, and a terrific American rhythm team of bassist Reuben Rogers (Charles Lloyd, Joshua Redman) and the unpredictably brilliant drummer Gerald Cleaver.
Prepare for a performance of inspirational playing, feisty improvisation and formidable themes derived from his acclaimed ECM double album, Wisława – dedicated to the celebrated poet, essayist and Nobel Laureate Wisława Szymborska.
“Brilliant chemistry, Stańko’s playing has never sounded better.” Downbeat
