The film which won Paweł Pawlikowski the Best Director prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival is being released in the UK by Artificial Eye. It is a film that plumbs the depths of love and paranoia in Poland of the late 40s as it sinks under the dark grip of the Stalinist terror. It is equally powerful on both personal and political levels.
Shot in black & white, the story steadily builds in tension and drama, pulling the viewer in with a stunning original soundtrack and cinematography that creates an elegant and understated visual landscape.
