Lenten Lamentations

Created in the early 18th century and considered a unique national treasure, Lenten Lamentations is a Catholic devotion containing religious hymns. After the partitions of Poland and at the time of war, it acted as the means to express national sorrow and a tool of preserving the Polish language. It touches upon some of the most universal topics, such as reflections and meditation on life and eternity.

Lenten Lamentations will be proceeded by a concert on March 10 presenting elements of European lament music. Performers include the internationally recognized singer Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett and harpisichordist Joanna Boślak-Górniok, who will be presenting Medieval lamentation pieces from France, England, and Spain.

The unique Sunday devotion will take place with the participation of the Sacred Heart Church parishioners. All English-speaking guests will be provided with translations of the performed texts.
