Selected by a global partnership of arts organisations, Artists’ Film International celebrates moving image work. The 2017–18 programme focuses on the theme of collaboration. Each organisation nominates an outstanding work from their region which is screened across each venue. Wojciech Bąkowski, Polish graphic designer and experimental artist, was chosen by Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. Gabriela Golder, an Argentine artist and curator, has been selected by Fundacion PRÓA, Buenos Aires.
In Conversation Piece (2013) by Gabriela Golder is about a woman reading Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto with her granddaughters. The girls ask questions, such as ‘What is communism?’, which she patiently answers, revealing the disconnect between a utopian vision and the social inequality that persists today. Wojciech Bąkowski’s The Analysis of Emotions and Vexations: Part 2 (2016) is a stop-motion animation made with ephemeral materials, which explores memory and reverie in which the viewer takes on the role of listener.
