Watch four young female professional dancers from the North East of England as they take to the stage to perform new work created by artistic directors and former Rambert dancers Renaud Wiser and Malgorzata Dzierzon.
Wiser and Dzierzon used Franz Schubert’s beautiful String Quartet No. 14 composed in 1824, also known as Death and the Maiden, as inspiration to create a 45 minute piece which will be performed with live musical accompaniment by Montreal based string quartet Quatuor Voxpopuli.
The result is a dramatic and lyrical piece which explores eternal quest for youth and immortality and where movement and live music combine as a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life.
Opening the evening is a new film commission by celebrated movement and theatre artist Wendy Houstoun. Wendy Houstoun has worked with amongst others DV8 Physical Theatre and also made two films, Touched and Diary of a Dancer for BBC with David Hinton.
“…as it draws to a close musicians and dancers freeze; the lighting fades to blackout. Silence for a long moment and then, when you thought it would never happen, the audience bursts into enthusiastic applause. Well justified applause, I have to say.”
