Winner of the 2015 International Chopin Competition, Seong-Jin Cho makes his Proms debut as soloist in Chopin’s lyrical and much-loved Second Piano Concerto.
The Polish theme that begins in the mazurkas that swirl through the concerto continues with the UK premiere of Agata Zubel’s Fireworks, a celebration of freedom and of the present moment, written to mark the 100th anniversary of Polish independence.
In the second half, Gianandrea Noseda and the European Union Youth Orchestra turn up the intensity with one of the great Romantic symphonies, Tchaikovsky’s stirring Fifth.
The enchanting music of Karol Nepelski gives a unique chance to enter the world of these young people, their dreams and fascinations. The mysterious voice of Marcin Gadalinski and Ulato Sam’s charisma guarantees an interesting time during this performative reading of an contemporary opera.
