A very unique concert. Alicja Śmietana, an outstanding violinist of the younger generation and an artistic director of Nigel Kennedy ‘s Orchestra of Life, will take us on a fascinating musical journey through the worlds of jazz and classical music. The program includes Chopin, Szymanowski and compositions by Jarek Śmietana, as well as Alicja’s interpretations of selected standards of jazz and popular music. Definitely a fascinating musical adventure performed by international jazz and classical music stars!
This special concert will take place on Friday 29 June 2018 in London at the POSK Theatre. Alicja Śmietana, an outstanding classical violinist, a daughter of a jazz guitar master Jarek Śmietana and an artistic director of Nigel Kennedy’s Orchestra of Life, is more and more boldly and courageously entering the London jazz scene and to a perfect effect. Alicja focuses on presenting a material in the broadly defined idiom of contemporary music, oscillating on the border between jazz and classical music, sometimes even reaching for classics of a widely understood popular music, which the artist arranges and presents in her own unique way. The evening promises to be a great artistic adventure.
The star of the evening will be accompanied on stage by some of the most outstanding jazz musicians of the contemporary international music scene. Behind the drum kit there will be the incomparable Asaf Sirkis, the world-renowned Israeli master of percussion, admired for his unique style of playing and composing. On the double bass we’ll see one of the most esteemed bassists on the London jazz scene, Yaron Stavi, known for his cooperation with such musicians like, among others, David Gilmour, Robert Wyatt, Phil Manzanera, Richard Galliano and Gilad Atzmon.
The star-studded set of artists will be complemented by an excellent American singer and pianist Karen Edwards, several times nominated for the Grammy Award in the USA, who collaborated with such artists like Prince, Pharoah Sanders, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett and Jarek Śmietana, whose most beautiful compositions will also be heard on that evening.
Karen Edwards is one of the most interesting American vocalists of young generation whose concerts are not only a fantastic music adventures, but also outstanding show. She performed in New York and Los Angeles in clubs and music theatres. For several years, as a main star she had weekly show in Atlanta. GA. She performed worldwide and many times in Europe where after successes in Germany she got a proposal to teach jazz singing and improvisation at Munchen Richard Strauss Music Conservatory.
All artists will be accompanied by a string quartet put together especially for the occasion, composed of young and talented London instrumentalists, who will be a beautiful addition binding everything into a unique whole.
