The Polish Literary Department the Tate Lambeth Library is an initiative of Nike Farida, a Polish writer living in London. She has realised that the local libraries, although offering a plethora of non-English books, rarely have Polish sections. Farida decided to change that and contacted the most famous contemporary Polish writers, asking them to donate books. Their response was very generous and she has managed to collect over 100 books, with many bestsellers and tittles nominated to important literary awards.

Along with the new Polish Section Farrida is also launching the Literary Club of 100 + PolishBooks4London. I strongly believe that contact with literature can change our lives for the better. Therefore, I have planned a series of literary events; book launches, readers’ evenings, cyclical discussion clubs and workshops such as "Great novels with culinaria in the background" or "How to write and publish a book." So many people write and are afraid to publish. It is possible! From my own experience I know that this dream can come true. - says Farida.

The opening of the Polish Literary Section will be followed by a discussion about the readers’ club where everyone can contribute their ideas for the forthcoming events.

Thanks to the decision of the Tate Library, all Polish-speaking Londoners may become members and borrow listed books. This is uncommon as usually the library membership is limited to residents only.
