This Autumn, timof comic, SelfMadeHero and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute proudly present Robot - a new graphic novel, comprised of two robot-themed tales by Stanisław Lem adapted into comic form by Andrzej Klimowski and Danusia Schejbal.
Robot will be published simultaneously in Polish by timof comics and in English by SelfMadeHero in November 2011.
Schejbal adapts 'Uranium Earpieces' in which a paranoid king forces his subjects to wear suits of glowing uranium alloy. Can a young inventor, Pyron, find a way to free the people from this evil tyrant?
Klimowski tackles 'The Sanatorium of Dr. Vliperdius' set in a world increasingly populated by robots. Our hero visits Dr. Vliperdius' institution, but its patients soon turn against him. Can he escape the institution after learning its dark secret?

Stanisław Lem (1921 - 2006) is a Polish author, is best known for writing the sci-fi classic Solaris. The short stories in Robot are taken from Lem's Mortal Engines collection.
Andrzej Klimowski
Born in London, 1949 - Klimowski spent the late sixties and early seventies studying sculpture and painting at London's prestigious St. Martin's college before moving to Poland to study poster design at Warsaw's renowned Academy of Fine Arts. It was here that he completed internships with Henryk Tomaszewski (poster design) and Kazimierz Urbański (animation). By the time he left for England in 1980, he had become a leading poster designer, who worked across various media, such as publishing (Nasza Księgarnia), graphic design (Szpilki), animation and stage design (Polish State Television). Back in London, he worked as a graphic designer and lectured on printmaking and graphic design at Canterbury, West Surrey and finally at the Royal College of Art where he is currently a professor in the Faculty of Communication and Graphic Design. Beside his teaching duties, Klimowski designs posters, book covers, editorial and theatre programmes using a variety of techniques, primarily lino-cut, but also collage, photomontage, drawing and printmaking. He continues to create animated films and for the past twenty years he has also created graphic novels, publishing for Faber and SelfMadeHero. Like Robot, his most recent graphic novels have been literary adaptations: Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita and Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Danusia Schejbal
Born in London, Schejbal studied stage design at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and Fashion and Clothing in London at the Ealing School of Art. While living in Poland, in the late seventies and early eighties she designed theatrical sets and costumes and on returning to London in 1981, she teamed up with the Cherub Theatre Company as a Set designer. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries across Europe. She has creatively collaborated with Andrzej Klimowski for decades and it was with him that she created the critically acclaimed graphic novel adaptations of The Master and Margarita and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for SelfMadeHero.
