Sofia Bohdanowicz and Deragh Campbell’s distinctive hybrid follows a young woman on a research trip to Harvard University Archives, where the letters of her great-grandmother—the renowned Polish poet, Zofia Bohdanowiczowa—are held.

What begins as a purely scholarly endeavour soon sees simmering tensions bubbling to the surface. Familial resentments, intellectual disagreements, and matters of the heart all enter the fray, each punctuated by moments of bone-dry humour.

Part of an ongoing series of collaborations between its co-directors, MS Slavic 7 is an elegant and witty investigation into the burdens of ancestral legacy, and the melancholy present in a family’s archived memories.

Sofia Bohdanowicz is an award-winning filmmaker whose films have screened internationally. She won the Jay Scott Prize (2017) and was nominated for the Rogers Prize (2018) by the Toronto Film Critics Circle.

Deragh Campbell is an actor in many critically acclaimed films as well as a screenwriter. She was awarded a MacDowell Fellowship and partook in the NYFF Artist Academy.
