The conference: Warsaw – the History of a Jewish Metropolis is the Institute’s latest and one of its most ambitious projects.
The Institute of Jewish Studies was established in 1954 in Manchester by the late Professor Alexander Altmann, and since 1959 it has been located within the Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies at UCL, while retaining its autonomous status. The IJS is funded by donations and has its own Patrons, governing body and Director. Its events are free and open to all.
The activities of the IJS offer students, colleagues, and the interested public the opportunity to meet distinguished scholars in their field and gain up-to-date acquaintance with their work through lectures, symposia and a major international summer conference. All our events are acclaimed as important scholarly events, on all aspects of Jewish Studies.
